Joe Staley was born on August 30, 1984, in Rockford, Michigan. He attended Rockford High School, where his interest in sports led him to participate in high school sports, particularly athletics and soccer. During the 2007 NFL Draft, he was selected by the San Francisco 49ers as an offensive line player. He finished his 2007 season for his new team with 16 starts and 8 bags. The following season, Staley was transferred to left tackle, where he started all games of the season, but this year he recorded only 8.5 sacks.
