After finishing high school, Chinchar enrolled at Ohio State University in 2003. Five years later, in 2008, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology. But Chinchar wasn’t just about academics, she was a member of Delta Delta Sorority and of course, belonged to the school’s meteorology club.
2. Allison Chinchar Career Rise
Right after graduating from Ohio State University, Chinchar began her career. Her first professional activity was working as a weekend evening meteorologist for the ABC affiliated television station WTC-TV, also known as News Channel with a license for Chattanooga, Tennessee. She held this job for exactly two years and 11 months and left in January 2011.

Next, Chinchar joined another NBC-affiliated television station, WKRN, which holds a license for Nashville, Tennessee, as a weekend evening meteorologist. She worked for the station for a year and 6 months before moving to Atlanta, Georgia to work for WXIA-TV as a weekend meteorologist. She took over her WXIA job in June 2012 and stayed until January 2015. 5 months later, CNN knocked on her door, which Chinchar was happy to open. She is the meteorologist for HLN Weekend Express, CNN International, and CNN.
In addition to her flourishing career, Chinchar is actively involved in numerous weather-related campaigns and organizations, including ASPCA (American Society for the prevention of cruelty to animals), AMS (American Meteorological Society), and NWS (National Weather Services).

Allison’s husband, Mike Bettes, is not only a meteorologist but also a storm chaser. He was born on January 9th, 1972, which makes him 12 years older than Chinchar. Since he started his career in 1988, he has a wealth of experience that makes life difficult for his wife. He is best known for his work for The Weather Channel and NBC News.

5. Chinchar is a Mother
About three years after she made the covenant with Mike, Chinchar welcomed her first baby, a son named Landen Benjamin Bettes, on January 31, 2015. Her pregnancy was first announced by 11 Alive News in July 2014. The birth of the baby was announced by Bettes via his Twitter handle, also spilling the fact that the baby weighed 8 pounds 3oz.
