All the hope in Los Angeles around the Rams for a trip to the 2019 Super Bowl rests on the shoulders of the first overall National Football League Draft 2016 candidate, Jared Goff. The quarterback, who made his first Pro Bowl appearance in 2017 and was named Best Player of the Year by the Association of Writers of Professional Football after his first appearance in the 2017 Pro Bowl, hopes to continue his meteoric rise in the league and establish his name among the best.

Goff was born as the second of two children of Nancy and Jerry Goff, a former professional athlete, on October 14, 1994, in Novato, California, where he grew up. From an early age, Goff actively played various sports – baseball, soccer, and soccer. But it wasn’t until he enrolled at Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield, California, that he began to focus primarily on America’s favorite sport.
As part of the school’s three-season soccer team, Jared Goff completed 477 of 767 passes at a 62.2% completion rate for 7,687 yards. He also scored 93 touchdowns with 18 interceptions, while his team set a record 39-4 for a North Coast Section crown and three MCAL championships.
After graduating high school, Goff was heavily recruited by a number of college programs from around the United States, but he chose to stay in the Sunshine State to attend the alma mater of his father, the University of California, Berkeley. A true newcomer, Goff was named starting quarterback for his school’s season opener in 2013, making him the first true newcomer in Berkeley history to do so. This season, he started all twelve games of his team and set school single-season records in various categories, including passes, yards won, passes completed, and passes attempted, even though the team finished with a miserable record of 1:11.

In his second season, Jared Goff continued to improve his game by setting new school records and helping his team to a better 5-7 record. As a junior, Goff drove his team into their first winning season, finishing 7-5, while he won the All-Pac 12 award for the first team. After that season, Goff announced that he would give up his last year of college to enter the draft. In his three-year college football career, he completed 977 of 1,569 passes for 12,220 pass-yards with 96 touchdowns and 30 interceptions, before joining the Los Angeles Rams, who selected him with the first-ever total in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Jared Goff has a very close relationship with his family, especially with his mother Nancy, who accompanies her son on several trips, and with his sister Lauren, who studied at the University of California at Berkeley and was mistakenly considered a friend of her brother in the past.
As discussed above, Goff’s father Jerry, who like his son attended Berkeley, was a professional athlete. But unlike his son, he played baseball instead of soccer. Jerry, who played primarily as a catcher, was selected by the Seattle Mariners in 1986 in the Major League Baseball Draft in the third round, where he finished 63rd. He then played for other teams such as the Montreal Expos, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Houston Astros in both the Minor League and Major League before continuing his career as a fireman in Novato, California.
