If you are overly annoyed with your video game-loving child because he or she is making silly noises in the house, a look at the career of a certain Sungwon Cho might just inspire you to cheer your child on. The name Sungwon Cho may not be immediately familiar to the Millennials and Gen Z’s that dominate the Internet world today, but at the mention of ProZD, many would immediately realize that you are referring to a certain Asian YouTube vlogger known for both his comic book and video game unwrapping videos.
ProZD, as he is known on all social media platforms, is also the voice behind a number of video games, including Norse Noir: Loki’s Exile, Chapter I, Apotheon, and A Hat in Time.
Sungwon Cho’s Biography (Age)
He has that not so old look, but don’t let this soft looking Asian face fool you, SungWon Cho is no young hopper. He was born on December 9, 1990. Although born in Minnesota, Cho, who is of Korean descent, later grew up in Lansing, Michigan, where his family had moved to.
Like any normal American child, Cho attended high school and even college. In 2012, he graduated from college with a degree in telecommunications with a focus on media arts and technology. But a college degree didn’t mean Cho would have seen through the rest of his life. Like many college graduates, Cho was aimless, which he revealed in an episode of the SYFY WIRE fandom files podcast.
However, he had one thing in mind – dubbing actors, because he was convinced that he was very good at imitating anime characters. Luckily for Cho, this period coincided with the time when Tumblr was a thing, so he came to the social media platform and wrote daily posts. He made impressions of anime characters, and slowly and then quickly the followers flocked in. Cho made it big in February 2014 with his first Goofy impressions on video. He made a cover version of Disney’s Frozen soundtrack Let It Go Goofy with Goofy’s voice and vroom, it went viral. From then on, his fan base began to grow rapidly.
Away from social media, Cho dedicated his time to ESL teaching Korean immigrants. In addition to Goofy, Cho made impressions of other anime characters, including his favorite – Super Mario.
With a strong Tumblr fan base, Cho also opened up other platforms: Vine, Instagram, and YouTube. However, before he became known through Tumblr, Cho was already present in social media. He posted his first YouTube video in 2006, but it was his Tumblr fame that revived the account, which now has over 1.3 million subscribers and more than 300 million views.
After Vine was closed, Cho transferred all his work to Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. SungWon Cho also operates a Twitch account.
Cho is now more than just a YouTube blogger. His primary goal in releasing his impression videos was to become a voice actor, and in retrospect, Cho can proudly pat himself on the back for getting this far. Some of Cho’s most popular works Anime Crimes Division, Sanders Shorts, and Red vs. Blue.
SungWon Cho is married to a certain Anne Marie. In her Twitter bio, Marie describes herself as an “occasional illustrator, full-time tea friend, and lover of all things sweet”. She is an artist and sells her sketches online.
Like himself, Cho’s wife is also a geek. It was her love of writing Super Mario fan fiction that originally brought them together. They got engaged in October 2015, and in April 2016, Cho revealed on his Twitter page that they had gotten married. Anne Marie was born on April 4, revealed Cho in one of his tweets.
