Susan Moonsie: 6 Things You Need to Know About David Garfield’s Wife

Susan Moonsie is an American musician best known as a member of the short-lived 80s music trio “Vanity 6” (1982-1983), which later became “Apollonia 6” (1983-1985). Both groups were protégés of the late music icon Prince, and Susan Moonsie was a member of both groups.

Under Prince’s tutelage, Vanity 6 released their self-titled debut album in 1982. This album was the only album the trio released before the departure of their lead singer. The group found a replacement for their lead singer and was then renamed “Apollonia 6”. Just like Vanity 6, Apollonia 6 released a studio album before it was forgotten.

Apart from her music career, Susan Moonsie was also known for her romantic relationship with Prince. During the 40 years that Prince was a recording artist, he was involved with several women at different times. However, he was not only with them for the sake of camaraderie, but he also found them a source of inspiration. Many of his songs were inspired by the women in his life, and Susan Moonsie can be considered one of Prince’s muses.

The group had a daring image and their lyrics were usually overly sensual. Because of their raunchy lyrics, most of their songs were found to be unfit for radio. On their cover photos and during their stage appearances the trio was usually dressed in lingerie.

Vanity 6 consisted of Susan Moonsie next to Brenda Bennett and the frontwoman of the trio, Denise Matthews aka Vanity. The trio only released one studio album, Vanity 6, and the lead single, Nasty Girl, made it to the top of the U.S. dance charts, reaching number 7 on the U.S. R&B charts. The group also made their stage debut on Prince’s 4th concert tour entitled 1999 tour (1982-1983).

The “Group Vanity 6” was originally formed around Susan Moonsie, and she was the intended leader of the group. So when Prince came across the daring Denise Mattews alias Vanity, he was fascinated by her and grabbed her to become the lead singer of the group.

The group Vanity 6 was original to be called “Hookers”. This alternative nickname, chosen by none other than the legendary musician Prince, is a representation of the bold sexuality of the then-deceased musician.

Susan Moosie first falsified her age to keep up with the “precocious teenager” image that Prince had wanted for her on Vanity 6. The singer claimed to be 16 years old, whereas she was already 18 when the group was formed.
