When Bitty Schram was written out of Monk and replaced by Traylor Howard of Two Guys and a Girl, many of her fans and lovers of the show wondered why, because Bitty was really quite good at what she does, because we would all agree that the chemistry between her and Tony Shalhoub made the show wow!
Initially, there was speculation that the producers of the show probably dumped Bitty for a younger actress to attract younger viewers. Then it was speculated that she left the show due to contract/money problems. However, it turned out that this was not the case and that Schram and the producers simply split up amicably, as both the US and Bitty’s management described her departure as nothing more than a change in creative direction.
Bitty, however, returned to the show as a guest star in the eighth season episode entitled Mr. Monk and Sharona. Sharona returns to San Francisco after the death of her Uncle Howard Fleming (whom Monk believes was murdered, not killed by an accident they were led to believe). In the episode, it was also discovered that Sharona and Trevor were no longer together and that Sharona’s son Benjy was making plans to go to college. Viewers also learned in this episode that Sharona and Randy may be together. In the last episode of the series, Randy moved to Summit, New Jersey to live with Sharona.
Bitty, born July 17, 1968, as Elizabeth Natalie Schram, became widely known for her role as Sharon Fleming (a divorced licensed professional nurse and single mother from New Jersey) in the television series Monk, which aired on USA Network from 2001 to 2009.
Schram starred in the TV series from its inception until she was hired in 2004, the same year she was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy Series but did not win.
