The famous golfer Bubba Watson was born on November 5, 1978, as Gerry Lester Watson Jr. Bubba was born in Baghdad, Florida, and became interested in golf at the tender age of six. The nickname Bubba was given to him by his own father, who was a former professional footballer. According to Bubba, his father was his inspiration in his early days of golf, and his full support motivated him to become the athlete he is today, but unfortunately, his father died of throat cancer.

When he was six years old, Bubba’s father took him to a golf course for the first time, and that was the origin of his interest in golf. His interest grew until it became an all-consuming interest, as the budding golfer spent years hitting Wiffle balls in his backyard while practicing daily. According to little Bubba, he preferred a ball and club to play with trucks, as children would normally do.

Bubba graduated from Milton High School where, as an amateur, he put on an impressive show even without formal training. While playing for Faulkner State Community College, the promising young golfer was named All-American Junior College’s first team. From college, he transferred to the University of Georgia, where he actively participated in golf. Thanks to his efforts, his team won the Southeastern Conference 2000 title. He spent years as part of the university’s golf team before joining the Nation Tour in 2001.

Professional Career

Bubba became a professional golfer in 2003, participated in the Nationwide Tour, and played until 2005. On the money list for the Nationwide Tour in 2005, the experienced golfer finished 21st, and his positive rank qualified him to play on the PGA Tour next year. He is considered one of the longest drivers on the PGA Tour. In 2007 he had an average drive of 315.2 (288.2 m) on his account. The talented golfer has the ability to hit a ball over 350 yards (320 m) and is also credited with the ability to generate a ball speed of up to 312 km/h (194 mph).

On June 27, 2010, Bubba Watson claimed his first victory on the PGA Tour at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut. He finished second behind Martin Kaymer at the 2010 PGA Championship in Whistling Straits. His next victory on the PGA Tour came at the Farmers Insurance Open on January 30, 2011, and at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans on May 1, 2011.
