Chris Archer is a professional baseball player who gained fame in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Tampa Bay Rays. Since creating the MLB Draft of 2006 and debuting in 2012, he has remained an important player for the team by playing as a starting pitcher. Learn all about him here.
Chris Archer Bio
On 26 September 1988, the star of the Tampa Bay Rays was born as Christopher Alan Archer in Raleigh, North Carolina. Although his mother had two other siblings with a different man than his father, Archer was raised by his maternal grandparents, Donna and Ron Archer.
They adopted him when he was just a two-year-old boy who sent him to Clayton High School for his education, and from there he transferred to the University of Miami. During his school years, he made a name for himself with the game he always loved – baseball.
Before that, he was introduced to baseball by Ron Walker, whom he always considered his brother. Walker, who helped him as a black man himself, was his junior coach in high school.
After being signed by the Cleveland Indians, he played in the Minor League for the Gulf Coast Indians and the Burlington Indians before being transferred to the Chicago Cubs, where he continued to play in the Minor League until he made his debut with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2012 after being transferred from the Cubs. Before moving to the MBL, he also played for the United States national baseball team, with whom he was to win the World Baseball Classic in 2017.
Chris Archer would stay with the Rays from 2012 after signing a six-year contract worth at least $25.5 million, although he could reach $43.75 million for eight seasons. He and the team made it to the All-Stars twice, in 2015 and 2017.
Parents and Family
The people the baseball player met as his parents are his grandparents, Donna and Ron Archer, who, as I said, are his mother’s parents. He has always lived with them since childhood and has always considered his mother as a kind of sister and even called her by her first name.
His biological mother is Sonya Clark, who is white. She had Archer with a man named Darryl Magnum who met him in 2006 when Chris Archer, then 17 years old, met him when his father worked as a firefighter. He had to find out who his real father was after being challenged by a friend and after trying to find an identity for himself.
Not surprisingly, Archer has revealed that he has no serious relationship with his birth mother, who had him when she was just 19 years old and had no intention of settling down. Nor did he ever have a relationship with his father.
Since his grandparents raised him, life was not easy for them, especially since they were white people raising a child who belonged to a different race. For his part, until he was 11 years old, Chris had always believed that his grandparents were really his own biological parents until someone at school asked him about his real parents.
Interestingly, the World Baseball Classic champion doesn’t hold a grudge against his biological parents because he believes if Donna and Ron Archer hadn’t been the ones who raised him, he would never have been in this place in his life.
Height, Weight, and Measurements
Although he didn’t learn much from his biological father, Chris Archer has an athletic build with a good height. That was the first thing he noticed when he first saw Darryl Magnum. The physique was able to complement the skills of the Tampa Bay Rays player and improve his endurance.
In terms of numbers, he is 192 cm (6 feet 3 inches) tall and weighs 88 kg (195lb). For his general measurements, he is very fit and athletic with long arms and legs, but there are no official figures.
- After meeting his father for the first time in a restaurant, he just took a picture of them together and left without the intention of meeting him again.
- Chris Archer has two other siblings that his mother had with another man. He still considers them as his siblings.
- There is hardly anything about the dating life of the star, but he is definitely not gay. In 2015, a male fan blew him a kiss, and he caught it and then threw it away.
- His net worth is estimated at $25 million.
