Colin James Farrell, born on 31 May 1976 in Castleknock, Dublin, Ireland, comes from a family of athletes. His father, Eamon Farrell, was a professional footballer and played for Shamrock Rovers FC. His uncle, Tommy Farrell, also played for the same club.
Colin Farrell’s siblings include an older brother named Eamon, Jr., and two younger sisters, Claudine and Catherine. Their mother is Rita (née Monaghan).
In his early years, Colin thought he would follow his father’s path, but he was more attracted to entertainment. He tried his hand unsuccessfully at the Irish boy band Boyzone before Henry Thomas’s appearance in 1982 in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial inspired him to consider acting. Colin Farrell is the father of two sons of separated women. His relationship with Kim Bordenave produced a son named James Padraig, born in 2003 at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Four years after the birth of his son, Farrell revealed that he had been diagnosed with Angelman syndrome. The syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that affects the nervous system and delays physical and intellectual development. It also causes speech problems and results in the victim having often excitable behavior. Farrell’s son did not start speaking until he was 6 years old, as he revealed when he appeared on Good Morning America in September 2017.
