For a large number of people, Manny Pacquiao is a boxer. But for the people in the Philippines, he is much more than what the ring says about him. He is also a politician, an ex-military, singer, actor, basketball player, and among other things a philanthropist. Through the various things he has been involved with Manny, he has received several awards for his dedication and hard work. Here is everything worth knowing about him.
Age, Early Life, and Rise to Fame
As Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao, Manny (Pacman) was born on December 17, 1978, in Kibawe, Bukidnon, Philippines. He was raised by his parents, Rosalio and Dionisia Dapidran-Pacquiao, together with five siblings.
For Manny, who not only grew up in a poor family but was homeless by the age of 12, growing up was not exactly one of the easiest things. This was because his father had killed and eaten a dog that Manny had rescued and brought home as a pet.
For his father, eating the dog was the only way to punish him for bringing the animal home, but for him, it was a sign to leave the house. Although his father left his mother for another woman, the greater sin for Manny, who would later be reconciled with his father, was his pet dog.
After the incident, the boxer left home and went to Manila where he started to live on the streets before he decided to become a professional boxer. Before that, he took some menial jobs as a construction worker and gardener. Not many people took him seriously because of his weight when he started, but that didn’t stop him.
Before he left home, he received his training in General Santos City at Saavedra Saway Elementary School. Due to poverty, however, he was forced to drop out of school to find a way to help the family earn some money.
When he was only 15 years old, Manny Pacquiao was already a top youth boxer. That was the beginning for the man who entered the ring 69 times and recorded 60 wins, 7 defeats, and 2 draws. While he won 39 fights by knockout, he lost 3 fights in the same way. One of his most popular fights was against Floyd Mayweather Jr., but unfortunately, Pacman lost the fight.
Beyond boxing, Manny is also a politician who serves as a senator for the Philippines. More than that, he played professional basketball for Kia Picanto in the Philippine Basketball Federation. Pacman has also appeared in a number of movies and has released a number of music albums.
Is Manny Pacquiao Gay Or Does He Have A Wife?
Manny is not gay. In the late 1990s, Manny was introduced by his uncle to a girl who worked in a shopping mall as a servant. He returned to the mall again and again until the girl decided to go out with the man, who was just a simple guy trying to make a living as a boxer.
Seven months later, Pacquiao and Jinkee Pacquiao became man and wife, much to the displeasure of his mother, who refused to participate in the civil ceremony. This may be a great love story, but it wasn’t quite as rosy as 2011, because Jinkee was willing to leave the marriage because of the gambling and cheating habits of her husband, whom she accused of adultery.
Like the fighter he is, Manny stepped forward and fought for his marriage, which he successfully saved, becoming a better Christian in the process. Jinkee Pacquiao and Manny now have five children together.
His Net Worth
Manny Pacquiao has net assets estimated at 190 million dollars. That was before his fight against Lucas Matthysse, which he won. Although the prize money is not known, his advisor Mike Koncz has revealed that he took home more than the $20 million, $4 million, and $10 million he had earned in his three previous fights.
With his fortune, Pacman, who was considered the fighter of the decade in the 2000s, is considered one of the richest men in the Philippines.
Height and Weight
No matter how you look at it, Pacquiao is a man who is extremely taller than his size. Although he is athletically built, he is not the tallest man you could find, nor the stoutest, considering that he is only 5 feet (166 cm) tall (5′ inches) and weighs 70 kg (154 pounds).
