Katherine Kay was born on 14 November 1964 in Wallingford, Berkshire, England, and grew up in Blewbury with the father of a British diplomat, while her mother is a journalist. There she met a friend named Matt Frei, who encouraged her to pursue a career in journalism. Later, in 1990, she began working as a BBC correspondent for World Service Radio in Zimbabwe. Two years later, she returned to London before being sent to Tokyo for BBC television. In 1996, she was again transferred to Washington D.C. and in 2002 she became a freelance journalist for the BBC. As a freelancer, Katty also worked as a reporter for the Times Bureau.

Since June 2004, however, Kay has co-hosted the BBC World Bulletins with Mike Embley, which have been broadcast on more than 230 channels in the United States, including BBC America. In 2007, the brilliant journalist Matt Frei became a correspondent for the show entitled BBC World News America.
She is the current host of BBC World News America, as well as a regular panelist on other programs such as Meet the Press on NBC, Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO, and the Chris Matthews show called Morning Joe.
