As an adolescent Osric Chau had wanted to pursue a career as a stunt actor. His passion for stunts led him to perform a stunt for the American video game company Electronic Arts (EA) and play a role in the Chinese version of What Women Want. In the long run, Chau chose acting and made his debut in the television series Kung Fu Killer.

The fast-rising actor was born on July 20, 1986, in British Columbia, Canada, the son of a father from Hong Kong and a mother from Malaysia. Chau began his journey to fame in 2000 when he was trained in Wing Chun for eight years. He then studied Chinese martial arts, traditional Wushu, and Tai Chi under the guidance of Zhang Ahi Bing, a renowned Chinese martial arts teacher from Harbin.
After completing his studies four years later, he returned to China and began studying the Chinese martial arts of the West Coast in Vancouver under the guidance of Bruce Fontaine, who taught him modern Wushu – a performance-based martial art.
After a successful training with Bruce, Chau trained with the Wushu team of the Beijing Sports University for seven months in 2007 to prepare for the Canadian national team’s exam. Later, after a successful outing, he became a member of the Canadian national Wushu team.
