Jason Thomas Mraz was born on June 23, 1977, in Mechanicsville, Virginia. His father Tom (Tomáš) Mraz and his mother June divorced when he was very young. He had his high school education at Lee-Davis High School, where he was a cheerleader and member of the school choir. After graduating, he studied for a year and a half at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City.
For his college education, Jason Mraz enrolled at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. However, he took a road trip to San Diego and never returned to college.
