He later transferred to Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where he played college golf and turned pro at the age of 22. Between 2005 and 2006, the golfer was not at the top of his game for reasons ranging from injuries, lack of performance to maintain his place on the money list, to inability to retain his playing rights. He recovered in 2007, however, when he returned to the Nationwide Tour and claimed his third win at the National Mining Association Pete Dye Classic, which also placed him 25th on the Nationwide Tour money list and secured him his PGA Tour card for the 2008 season. Although the 2008 season was a bit shaky for his career, the golfer made the leap to the next season, where he achieved his first two top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour. From then on, he continued to enjoy consistency in his wins, which in 2016 gave way to his remarkable win over Jason Day and earned him his first major PGA Championship title.
Does Jimmy Walker Have A Wife Or Girlfriend?
The golf pro is happily married to Erin Stiegemeier, with whom he has two sons named Mclain Walker and Beckett Walker. The couple is said to have met in 2004 when Erin volunteered to play on the Nationwide Tour that year. Erin is also a nationally recognized showjumper, but lately, she has ventured into writing and has published several articles about golf as a sport.
Erin is the one who has been taking care of her husband since he was diagnosed with Lyme disease, but the news that hit the airwaves earlier this year is that she too is infected with the disease and is being treated alongside Walker.
His Battle With Lyme Disease
Sometime in April 2017, Walker announced to the public that he had been diagnosed with Lyme disease. Although sources say that his illness began earlier than the diagnoses revealed, and even his doctors did not expect him to get such a rare disease. The golfer is said to have had symptoms such as mood swings, brain fog, and constant flu that affected his performance on the golf course.
After his diagnosis, the athlete even revealed that finding the right treatment for his illness was no easy task. His initial treatment was the traditional doxycycline therapy, but it didn’t seem to do him much good as it resulted in second-degree burns from the sun when he ventured out onto the course. Currently, he is supposed to be on a treatment plan that includes pulsed tetracycline therapy, where he takes antibiotics for two weeks and has two weeks off. Sources also say that with this new treatment he seems to be getting better and would be back on his feet on the golf course in the near future.
