Karen Lucille Hale was born on June 14, 1989, in Memphis, Tennessee, the daughter of Julie Knight, a registered nurse, and Preston Hale. She was named after her great-grandmother. Lucy has an older sister named Maggie and two stepbrothers and stepsisters, Wes and Kirby Hale. Kirby was born on August 28, 1995, and is a cancer survivor.

She attended Cordova Optional School in Memphis and was home-schooled after moving to Los Angeles, California to pursue her dream in music. While she was homeschooled, Hale took acting and singing lessons to refresh her skills. She became one of the five finalists of the show and finished fourth.

Since Lucy was going through a dull music career, she decided to test the waters in acting. She landed small roles in Drake and Josh, Neds Declassified, School Survival Guide, The O.C., Private Practice, Ruby & The Rockits, Wizards of Waverly Places, and How I Met Your Mother.

In 2007 she was cast in NBC’s short-lived reinterpretation of Bionic Woman as Becca Sommers, the younger sister of Jamie Sommers. In 2008 she was cast as Rose Baker in CW’s comedy-drama Privileged. The show was an adaptation of the book How To Teach Filthy Rich Girls, written by Zoey Dean. Unfortunately, the show was canceled after one season due to low ratings.

In October 2009 Lucy was cast as Aria Montogomery in the teen mystery TV series Pretty Little Liars by ABC. The series lasted seven seasons from 2010 to 2017 before it was canceled.

She also starred in the CW drama “Life Sentence” about Stella Abbott, a terminally ill woman who suddenly learns that she is completely healthy and free of cancer. Unfortunately, The CW canceled the show on June 15, 2018, after only one season due to low ratings.

Lucy Hale’s film debut in 2008 was the romantic drama The Sisterhood of The Travelling Pants 2, in which she played Effie Kaligaris, the younger sister of Lena Kaligaris, played by Alexis Bledel.
