The Serbian left-back was born on 1 August 1988 in the West Serbian town of Sebac in former Yugoslavia. Of Macedonian descent, whose parents survived the Second World War, he grew up in Serbia.

The club footballer began playing with his brother at a very young age. He inherited his sporting skills from his parents, which his brother also made use of.

When he started playing football, he was an attacking midfielder, and it was his father who was the first and earliest coach. However, like anyone who seriously wants to play at a professional level, young Matic had to find a youth club and so he left home before he was ten years old.

After just two games at Chelsea, Matic was sent on loan to Vitesse and from there he was signed by Benfica in 2011, prompting David Luiz to move to Stamford Bridge. After winning the Primeira Liga and Taça da Liga with the club and scoring 99 games and 9 goals, Chelsea returned to sign him in 2014.

With his second move to Chelsea, which lasted until 2017 when he joined Manchester United, the Serbian star had won two English Premier League titles and an FA Cup. By the end of the 2017/2018 season, he had already played 49 games for Manchester, scoring 2 goals in the process.

Wife and Family

As mentioned above, the defensive midfielder has a brother, Uroš Matic, who was born on 23 May 1990. Just like his older brother, the younger Matic is a footballer who plays for FC Copenhagen in Denmark as a midfielder.

Both brothers were raised by their parents: Dragan Matic (father) and Biljana Matic (mother). Their roots are in what is now Macedonia, where their maternal grandparents came from. The success of Nemanja and Uros as footballers may be linked to their father, who was also a footballer when he was young.
