The unique golfer was born on 29 June 1990 as Ryu So-Yeon in South Korea. She grew up together with her younger sister So-Myung in Seoul. So Yeon Ryu was one of the three golfers representing South Korea at the 2006 Asian Games. After an outstanding performance, Ryu won an individual gold medal and also helped her team win the gold medal. She dominated the game with 29 under par and a nine-stroke win. The following year, Ryu helped the Korean team to a 20-stroke victory in the Queen Sirikit Cup. She also won individual titles with a 12 under par ahead of her opponent Hye Yong Choi.
