Vijay Singh Biography
Vijay Singh was born on February 22, 1963, in Lautoka, Fiji, the son of a father who was an aircraft engineer but also found the time to teach golf. He was raised by his parents, Mohan (father) and mother (Parwati). Together with his other siblings, Krishna Mira and Anita, they were raised by their parents in a financially disadvantaged family.
As he is of Hindu descent, Vijay and his family experienced many prejudices as a child. However, this did not stop him from using all sorts of things to play golf, which his father taught him on an old, abandoned golf course very close to the airport where he worked. This did not mean that the two were close, because he grew up around his mother, who was closer to his mother than his disciplining father.
Although Vijay Singh also loved other sports such as football, rugby, and snooker, it was golf that attracted him more. In his early teenage years, the man who would rule the world of golf had begun to compete in local tournaments and win a number of tournaments and, more importantly, to build his talent and confidence.
When Singh turned 16, he chose to play golf instead of school, and this broke his parents’ hearts, who relied on him to complete his education and help the struggling family. Without achieving much after 3 years, the golfer decided it was time to go to Australia and continue his career in the right way. He did not have it easy in Australia where he was confronted with poverty and racism.
In the years that followed, he met the man who kept failing and moving from place to place while working with various golf clubs and even once as a bouncer. Although he accumulated a lot of debt, he didn’t give up until 1992, when he became a name that could count on winning two tournaments in Europe, another in Asia and several others, including the 1988 Nigerian Open, which was his first victory as a professional – he became the first colored man to win the tournament, which was very popular with fans.
From then on, his career took quite a big turn, and in the years to come he was to record 34 PGA Tour wins, 13 European Tour wins, and 5 Asian tours. He also has 2 PGA Tour champions, as well as many other tournaments.
After a very successful career, he was number 1 in this sport in 2004 and 2005. In the official golf world rankings, he even remained number 1 for 32 weeks and has been honored with numerous awards, including the Byron Nelson Award, European Tour Player of the Year and PGA Player of the Year 2004.
His Wife and Children
One of the few people who has accompanied Singh through all his battles until he became the best golfer in the world is his wife Ardena Seth. The two have been married since 1985, even before he made a name for himself as a golfer.
He and the Malaysian Ardena Seth have a son, Qass Seth, and he was born in 1990.
