Gina was born on April 16, 1982, in Dallas, Texas, and is the daughter of Glenn Carano, a professional soccer player, and Dana Joy. Gina was born as the second child of three siblings, her full name is Gina Joy Carano. She attended high school at Trinity Christian High School in Las Vegas. During her time at the school, Gina was on the girl’s basketball team that later secured a state championship. The University of Nevada was the next step in her education, where she majored in psychology.
When Gina decided to become a mixed martial artist, she started training with Muay Thai and then advanced to the MMA competition team where she participated in EliteXC and Strikeforce. Her interest in Muay Thai was sparked by the Muay Thai fighter and friend at that time, Kevin Ross. Her record in Muay Thai was 12:1:1, securing her chance to be the first sanctioned female MMA fighter.
She fought Rosi Sexton at the World Pro Fighting show in Las Vegas and knocked her out in the second round to win the fight. She defeated Elaina Maxwell twice, first in Muay Thai, and then in the first women’s fight in Strikeforce. Since she hadn’t reached the weight in an EliteXC fight with Kaitlin Young, she agreed to lose 12.5% of her purse, kept the fight in the cards, and still beat her opponent.

Strikeforce created its first women’s lightweight championship after a fight between Carano and Cris Cyborg on August 15, 2009. When Carano lost the fight through TKO, it meant her first defeat in her professional MMA career. Although she was billed for several games over the years to mark her return to MMA, Carano never made it back into the octagon. Although fights with Sarah D’Alelio and Ronda Rousey were announced and discussed, they never happened.
Her mixed martial arts degree is an impressive read. In a total of 8 fights, Carano won 7 of these fights, 3 by knockout, 3 by decision, and 1 by submission. In her only defeat, she was knocked out. Besides her MMA career, Carano also made a name for herself in acting.
Her first foray into film came when she starred in Ring Girls, a 2006 movie. The film was based on real-life events. She appeared on television with the reality series Oxygen – Fight Girls and NBC’s American Gladiators. In 2011 Carano was given her starring role in the spy thriller Haywire. In February 2012 she was cast for the action thriller Blood. The film was directed by John Stockwell. In Fast & Furious 6 Carano played the role of an agent of the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) under Dwayne Johnson, who played the role of special agent Luke Hobbs. Her performance was praised by the critics. Carano played the lead role in Extraction, a movie made in 2015, and then appeared in Deadpool in 2016.

Gina Carano was a theme with Superman actor Henry Cavill in September 2012 and was a theme until May 2013, when they canceled it.
