Otto Porter Jr. was born in St. Louis on June 3, 1993, the son of the family of Otto Porter Sr. and Elnora Porter. The little striker was raised together with his siblings Jeffrey and Brittany Porter.

Since his father played basketball in high school as did his uncles Melvin Porter, Jerry Porter, and Marcus Timmons, it was only natural that he was created for this sport. Even more, his mother, who bought him his first basketball before he could walk, also played the sport and was even named All-State in 1985.
Otto Porter went to Scott County Central High School, where he played basketball, and from there he moved to Georgetown University, where he played for the Hoyas.
