Dave was born on January 14, 1969, in Warren, Ohio, under the maiden name of David Eric Grohl, the son of parents Virginia Jean Grohl and James Harper Grohl. His mother was a teacher while his father was a journalist, and they are said to be of German, Irish and Slovakian descent.

During his early childhood, his parents moved to Springfield, Virginia, but when he was 7 years old, they divorced and he eventually grew up with his sister Lisa Gohl under the care of his mother.

The rock star’s father struggled with cancer for a while, and after countless medical treatments, he died on August 6, 2014.
