Although he has become famous through his regular appearance on reality TV shows, not much is known about his early life. However, he was born in 1955 as the son of George Lagina and Ann. C Lagina, an engineer, was born in Kingsford, Michigan, Upper Peninsula. He grew up in Michigan and attended college there, graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1977. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Pi Tau Sigma. So Marty is an engineer by profession and has worked in the energy industry.
He was interested in law and studied it with great dedication from 1979. In 1982 he received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan. In the same year, he founded his own oil and gas exploration company, Terra Energy Ltd.
Marty began his career as an oil engineer with Amoco Production Company when he was studying law before founding his company. However, after running his company for 13 years, he sold it to CMS Energy in 1995 for $58 million. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the State Bar of Michigan.

As they grew up, the Lagina brothers (Rick and Marty) were thrilled by an article published in the January 1965 issue of Reader’s Digest. What was the article about? The article was about the work of the Restall family in investigating the mystery of Oak Island. Their interest in the island was born, and many years later they were to acquire a controlling interest in Oak Island Tours.
Marty Lagina and Rick Lagina were approached by the Prometheus entertainment that led to the birth of the reality show “The Curse of Oak Island”, which put them in the spotlight. The show focuses on the brothers’ efforts to unravel the mystery of Oak Island off the coast of Nova Scotia and discover its hidden treasure. To do so, they are using global experts and advanced technology. However, they have teamed up with father-son duo Dan and Dave Blankenship, the permanent residents of the “money pit”.
The show documents the history of the island, the discoveries made during the search of the island, and the attempts to solve the mystery within. The premiere of The Curse of Oak Island took place on January 5, 2014, and since March 2018 the fifth season has come to an end.

He founded another company called Heritage Sustainable, which specializes in wind turbines, and was previously chairman of the Michigan Oil and Gas Association. Through his company, he plans to manufacture sixty turbines in the Missaukee area, which will make him the largest wind energy producer in Michigan.

Marty comes from a family and also has a family of his own. He has an older brother, Rick, with whom he shares the sisters Terese and Martina. The wine connoisseur is married and has been married to his wife, Margeret Olivia Lagina, for over two decades.
Margaret attended Ewing High School in Michigan and graduated from Reuters College. She worked at Wiser Oil Co. in Michigan as a geological engineer and also worked with her husband in their engineering office.

They have a daughter, Maddie, and a son, Alex. Alex, who followed his parents’ path to engineering and has a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan. When not working at the winery, he joins his father and Uncle Rick in the Icelandic Treasure Hunt.
