With parents who used to keep their thumbs up as tennis pros, Nelly Korda had the right platform to gain a foothold in the sport while growing up. Both Nelly Korda’s parents – Petr Korda (father) and Regina Rajchrtová (mother) – are retired tennis professionals. At a young age, Petr Korda won the crown at the Australian Open in 1998, becoming Grand Slam champion. Similarly, Sebastian, Nelly’s younger brother, followed in his parents’ footsteps and won the Australian Open title in the boys’ class in 2018. The young star is not only the reigning champion but also currently number 2 in the ITF Junior World Ranking.

On July 28, 1998, the golfer was born in Bradenton, Florida, as the second child of her family. She was born as the child of former professional tennis player Petr Korda and his wife Regina Rajchrtová, who played for the Czech Republic, their home country. Of the three children born to tennis players, only one, their son Sebastian, has followed in their footsteps and is doing remarkably well in his chosen career. The daughters, on the other hand, chose to go their own way on the golf course and build their careers from the amateur stage to their current status as professionals. The sisters became interested in golf at a very young age and then began to practice and improve their skills at least six times a week.

Prior to becoming a professional, Korda was a member of the 2015 U.S. Junior Solheim Cup and also won the title for the 2015 Harter Hall Invitational, the 2015 PING Invitational, and was named the 2015 AJGA Rolex Junior All-American Junior. In early 2013, she made the cut at the U.S. Women’s Open.

Professional Career As A Golfer

After acquiring her pro card in 2016, Korda started her career as a professional on the Symetra Tour in 2016. During the Tour, she won her first professional victory in the Sioux Falls GreatLIFE Challenge. She shot laps from 68-67-69-66 for a 3-stroke victory over Wichanee Meechai. In addition to her victory, she finished the season in 9th place on the money list, earning her the LPGA Tour ticket for 2017. That same year, Nelly finished eighth in the July Marathon Classic.
