Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is a Danish screenwriter, producer, and actor best known for his role as Jaime Lannister in HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones – a show that is regularly hailed as one of the greatest television shows of all time. Nikolaj’s performance as Jaime Lannister was very well received and applauded, resulting in him winning several awards for his performance.
Over the years, he has won a Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Mini-series or TV Movie, a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, a People’s Choice Award for Favorite TV Anti-Hero, a Gold Derby TV Award for Best Supporting Drama Actor, a Zulu Award for Best Actor and a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor on TV.
In 1993 Nikolaj graduated from the Danish National Theatre School in Copenhagen. His groundbreaking role came a year later when he took on the role of Martin Bork in the film Nightwatch in 1994. Since then his resume has expanded and he has appeared in several films, including Thousands of Goodnights, The Other Woman, and Headhunters.
The actor’s first American film role was in 2001 when he starred as Gary Gordon in the Academy Award-winning film Black Hawk Down. He also played the lead role in New Amsterdam, a 2008 FOX network television show, and then in 2009, the Dutch actor played Commander Frank Pike in the film Virtuality. Although he directed several of these projects, he only became a household name when he got his role in Game Of Thrones.
In 2017, he signed up to tell one of the fairy tales, The Steadfast Tin Soldier, for the famous fairytale app GivingTales. He stated that he was very proud to realize this project, as the author of The Steadfast Tin Soldier is a great part of his country’s culture.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is also a fan of Leeds United, an English football club.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Bio and Age
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was born on 27 July 1970 in Rudkøbing, Denmark. Although he was born in Rudkøbing, he grew up in Tybjerg. His mother, Hanne Søborg Coster, was a librarian, and his father (who died in 1998) was Jørgen Oscar Fritzer Waldau.
The actor has two older sisters and has been raised mainly by his mother since his parents’ divorce. In many of his interviews, Nikolaj spoke openly about his father’s alcoholism and his parent’s divorce.
From 1989 to 1993 he attended the Danish National School for Theatre and Contemporary Dance. He was also the youngest actor to be admitted to the school.
His Family, Wife, and Kids
In 1998 Nikolaj Coster-Waldau married the actress and singer Nukâka, who comes from Greenland. His wife was also a former Miss Greenland and took part in the Miss Universe beauty contest in 1990. The couple currently lives with their two children in Kongens Lyngby.
Nikolaj and Nukâka have two daughters in common, Filippa, who was born in 2000, and Safina, who was born in 2003. They also have two dogs. Their daughter Filippa is an aspiring actress who starred in the short film “The Girl and the Dogs”. The film was shown at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014.
Nikolaj’s father-in-law is Josef Motzfeldt, former chairman of the People’s Party Community and member of the Greenlandic Parliament.
