Shura Baryshnikov – Biography
She was born in 1981 as Aleksandra Lange “Shura” Baryshnikov in Stillwater, Minnesota, United States, as the daughter of the American actress Jessica Lange and the Soviet-born Russian and American dancer/actor Mikhail Baryshnikov. Shura Baryshnikov is an American dancer, choreographer, entrepreneur, artist, and educator. As a young girl with famous parents, she had the choice of following in her parents’ footsteps or trying to discover something of her own interest.

At a young age, she witnessed dance movements and styles from her father’s work and theater performances from her mother’s work, visited many locations, and saw various actors. But although she was often with her mother, Baryshnikov decided to follow in her father’s footsteps and pursue a career as a dancer. Shura Baryshnikov began to train in ballet, but with high school, her passion for dancing faded and she began to yearn for other things, especially sports.
She took part in sports activities such as athletics, field hockey, and horse riding. After finishing high school, she enrolled at Marlboro College in Vermont where she earned her bachelor’s degree. After college, the desire to dance reawakened in her and she decided to build her career there.
Since her training and debut, the dancer and choreographer have taught at various schools. She currently teaches dance at the Moses Brown School. At Brown University she teaches dance, movement, and contact improvisation. Shura has also taught dance at other colleges such as MIT, Rhode Island College, Connecticut College, Salve Regina College, and Dean College.
Sometimes Baryshnikov works as a freelance dancer, she has performed in works by Heidi Henderson and Betsy Miller. She has also worked as a consultant for the Wilburg Theatre Group, the Elemental Theatre Collective, and the Trinity Repertory Company. Baryshnikov and Danielle Davidson are the founders of the Doppelganger dance collective.
Siblings
Shura Baryshnikov has five siblings, all of whom are her half-siblings. Her parents were never legally married, although they were together for six years. During the time Baryshnikov was conceived, her mother was still married to Paco Grande. She and Paco were in the process of getting a divorce after Jessica’s affair with Mikhail came to light.
Baryshnikov has no siblings in common with both parents but shares with both parents a pair of half-siblings from the other marriage/relationship of their parents.

From her mother, she has two half-siblings, Hannah Jane Shepard and Samuel Walker Shepard, both from the other marriage/relationship of her parents. Both Hannah and Samuel are products of Jessica’s relationship with Sam Shepard. Hannah was born in 1986, while Samuel was born in 1987.
From her father, she shares half-brothers and sisters, Peter Baryshnikov, Anna Baryshnikov, and Sofia-Luisa Baryshnikov. Peter, Anna, and Sofia are descendants of the later marriage between Mikhail Baryshnikov and Lisa Rinehart. Peter was born on July 7, 1989, Anna on May 22, 1992, and Sofia on May 24, 1994.
Shura’s half-sister Anna Baryshnikov also shares in the family’s fame. An actress who began her acting career in 2014, Anna has appeared in three films and eight television shows.
Is She Married, Who is Her Husband?
Baryshnikov is not married, and she is currently not in a relationship with anyone. She may not be married yet, but she is the mother of her two beautiful daughters. Baryshnikov has refused to reveal who is the father of her two girls and has not asked herself the question of whether both girls have a single father or whether they belong to different men. Shura is not a fan of the media and has made it a habit to keep her private life away from prying eyes.
