There are so many artists, including some of the biggest in the music business, of whom the world has probably only heard after EPs and albums, and there are many others of whom the world has not had the privilege of hearing their music even after many albums and EPs. The story of Alice Merton is a very different one.

With her first single No Roots, which she released in 2016, the German-Canadian-English singer made her breakthrough into the mainstream. Since then she has achieved much more.

Alice Merton Biography

Alice Merton was born on September 13, 1993, in Frankfurt, Germany, to a British father and a German mother. Only a few months after her birth, her family moved to Connecticut in the United States, before moving back to Ontario shortly after. Here she stayed for the first 13 years of her life before she had to move again to Munich.

As she grew up, her family moved almost constantly because her father worked as a mining consultant. This later influenced her first song, which also gave the young singer a first taste of fame. The singer lived in places like New York, Bournemouth, London, Connecticut, and various other places.

Even as a little girl, she was attracted to music when she started learning to sing and play the classical piano. Alice had her high school education in Germany, where she also wrote her first song ever. After high school, she moved back to England with her family. But later she found her way back to her native country, where she studied composition and songwriting at the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg in Mannheim.

Career-wise, it was in 2015 that light of fame illuminated her path for the first time when she appeared on Fahrenhaidt’s album The Book of Nature. The following year, she released her first single No Roots, which was an instant hit in various parts of the world, including the USA, where she was awarded gold, Germany, where she won 3 gold medals, and Austria, Poland, Switzerland, and France, where she was awarded platinum.

In February 2017 she released her first EP, No Roots, which was a remarkable success. This was followed by the release of her album Mint in January 2018, which was very successful in Germany and other parts of the world.

Her Family

Alice Merton described the family in which she grew up as quite restless, which she cited as the reason for some of the family movements.

As mentioned above, her father is British, but her mother is German, although their names are not mentioned. Moreover, although she revealed that she has a brother and sister, there is no information about their names.

On a more personal level, the platinum-selling singer-songwriter still has to start her own family, as she is not yet married.
