In college, he joined the Sigma Chi Brotherhood and became friends with country star Luke Bryan, who had been a part of the same fraternity a few years earlier when he was in school.
Bryan and his band Neyami Road had returned to the fraternity house to play a show when Cole, after seeing them, was inspired to develop his musical skills. He began a relationship with Bryan that would lead to a long-term bromance. Cole graduated with a degree in marketing, then moved to Nashville, and spent the next three years selling merchandise for Luke Bryan, whose career developed rapidly.

While working on Bryan’s touring team, Cole began writing his own songs. By 2010, he had developed enough to sign a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing. He then began writing songs for Luke Bryan as well as other country stars such as Craig Campbell, Thomas Rhett, Florida Georgia Line, and Chris Young.
Three years later, in 2013, Cole Swindell signed a record deal with Warner Music Nashville following the huge success of his independently released debut single Chillin’ It. His debut album of the same name was released in February 2014 to great acclaim. He played as the support act for Luke Bryan’s That’s My Kind of Night tour and quickly gained wider recognition. His third studio album All of It was released in August 2018.
Dad, Family
Cole Swindell grew up in a small family in Bronwood, Georgia, which included his parents William Keith Swindell and Betty Carol Rainey, and two brothers.
Unfortunately, an unexpected tragedy struck the Swindells on September 2, 2013, when their father William Keith Swindell died at the age of 65. Cole’s father was working on a truck when it accidentally fell on him. The tragedy couldn’t have come at a worse time, as it was at this time that Cole began to succeed with his music career.
His father’s death occurred exactly 6 weeks after he called him to inform him about his record deal with Warner Music Nashville. It was a happy moment for the family, recorded on tape by one of Cole’s friends.
In December 2015, about two years after his father’s death, Cole released the song “You Should Be Here”, in which he described how he wished his father were alive to share his musical successes with him. He wrote the song together with Ashley Gorley.

The video for the song started with the old video that his friend recorded when he told his father about his new record deal. It ended with Cole and his brothers sobbing at their father’s gravestone. Swindell revealed that it was one of the hardest videos he had ever made.
He again honored his father with the 2018 single “Dad’s Old Number”.
