Ron Rivera is someone who has made a name for himself in the National Football League (NFL), first as a player, then as a defensive coordinator, and also as a coach. He made the NFL draft in 1984, and since then he has become an important part of the sport. You can find out all about him here.
Ron Rivera’s Bio, Ethnicity
He was born Ronald Eugene Rivera on 7 January 1962 in Fort Ord, California. He grew up in different places, as his father, Eugenio Rivera, was a military officer, and therefore had to move from place to place whenever he was transferred.
For his education, he spent his early days in various places, including Germany, Panama, and the United States. Nevertheless, the family later settled in California, where he attended Seaside High School and graduated. By the time he graduated, his talent had helped him to get a scholarship to the University of California at Berkeley.
As for his ethnic background, he is of Puerto Rican descent, even though he is an American by nationality. He grew up with 3 other brothers. There was also his brother Mickey, who he lost to cancer in 2015.
What would put Ron Rivera in the spotlight is, as I said, his activities in football, which began before he went to college. After a very successful college football career, he was selected by the Chicago Bears in the 1984 Draft of the Year in the NFL. By 1985 he was already playing in the league and became part of the team that won the Super Bowl in 1985.
He stayed with the Chicago Bears from the time he was drafted until he retired from the sport in 1992. In addition to the Super Bowl, he was also named an East-West Shrine Game MVP, he was part of the Consensus All-American team, and he was awarded the Pop Warner Trophy in 1983.
After his time as a player ended, Ron worked with the media for a while before returning to work with the Bears as a defensive quality control trainer. That was in 1996, and by 1999 the Philadelphia Eagles had taken him on as a linebacker trainer. In 2004 Ron returned to the Chicago Bears as Defensive Coordinator. He retained this position until he moved to the San Diego Chargers, where he was Linebacker Trainer in 2008 and Defensive Coordinator from 2008 to 2010.
Carolina Panthers was the next place he would be based in 2011 when he was appointed head coach of the team. Although he has not yet won the Super Bowl, he has led her to the 2016 final. He has also won a number of personal awards, including AP NFL Coach of the Year in 2013 and 2015 and PFWA NFL Coach of the Year in the same period.
Family, Wife (Stephanie), and Daughter
There are many interesting things about Rivera, and one of them is his relationship with his wife, Stephanie Rivera. The two have spent many years together since they first met in 1983. Back then, the beautiful woman was Stephanie Tamayo.
Ron is not the only member of his family who is interested in sports, because Stephanie was also an athlete at the University of California where she played basketball. After they met for the first time, she had him invite some boys to play basketball against her women’s team. Soon after, they started dating.
Less than 5 months after they started dating, Stephanie and Ron knew that they were ready to spend their lives together and this led to an engagement. In 1984, they were married as man and wife. The union was blessed with a son, Christopher, and a daughter, Courtney.
Ron Rivera has been connected with American football for as long as many people can remember. He has made a name for himself not only on the field as a player but also on the sidelines as a coach. It is therefore easy to assume that, having worked as hard as he has, he should have a good fortune. Well, he is, because his net worth is estimated at $5 million.
