Corey Lamont Holcomb was born on June 23, 1968, in Chicago Illinois. He has an African-American ethnic background and is an American citizen. Holcomb grew up in a black community called Robert Taylor Homes in Chicago. He graduated from Illinois State University in the late 1990s. During his college years, Corey played basketball before being introduced to stand-up comedy by his friends DeRay Davis and Godfrey Danchimah, who were comedians themselves.
Holcomb began his comedy career in the late 90s. Initially, he took the name “Ghetto Dr. Phil McGraw” and performed in various comedy centers and television series, including “Last Comic Standing” by NBC and Russell Simmons Def Comedy Jam. He appeared alongside Cedric the Entertainer in Comic View and later in the comedy series Wild N’Out, which was sketched by Nick Cannon in 1995. Besides Jamie Foxx, he was a regular on The Foxxhole for four years (2007 to 2011).
