He is an American professional baseball right fielder for the Boston Red Sox of MLB. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee on October 7, 1992. Mookie Betts had a multi-sport education, but somehow baseball got stuck. His family is a pretty competitive family; they played both basketball and bowling competitions. As a child, Mookie always had some kind of ball in his hands – whether it was a football, football, or ping-pong.

Mookie was an outstanding basketball player in high school and was named an MVP in both high school and junior high. He also excelled in bowling and was named Bowler of the Year for Tennessee Boys in 2010 with a high score of 290 points. Mookie Betts Parents, Wife

He was born into a family in which sport and the benefits it brings are taken for granted. His mother is an enthusiastic bowler and taught him to bowl at an early age. She was also his first coach in Little League. Apparently, he inherited his baseball acumen from her, and it is thanks to her that she taught him the right form and taught him how to play in every game. His parents are Diana Benedict and Willie Betts and they are African-American.

His father took part in athletics and basketball games in his youth. Willie Betts is a retired CSX track mechanic and also served in Vietnam as a member of the U.S. Air Force. Mookie has an uncle who was an outstanding player on the baseball field, a 14-year-old MLB veteran, Terry Shumpert. Terry worked extensively with his nephew and was always there to guide him.

His real name, Markus Lynn Betts, was chosen by his parents to form the initials MLB, and his nickname, Mookie, is also related to the sport. Shortly after he was born, his parents saw former NBA guard Mookie Blaylock play and liked his gift, the attribution of the name to their son by his basketball fan mother, who thought the name was just right for her son. The Red Sox player as such would rather be addressed by his nickname than by his real nickname.

Mookie is engaged to his long-time girlfriend, Brianna Hammonds. The two have known each other since middle school and have been together ever since. Brianna, born August 7, 1994, graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 2015.
